Loudoun Credit Union Announces Plans for Flagship Location in Historic Downtown Leesburg
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – April 7, 2025 – Loudoun Credit Union has announced its plans to relocate its headquarters to a new flagship location at 6 W Market Street in the heart of historic downtown Leesburg. This marks a homecoming for the member-owned cooperative, which was founded in Leesburg nearly 50 years ago.
The move is part of LCU’s continued modernization strategy, and construction is set to begin soon. The 5,800-square-foot space, spanning three restored historic buildings, is expected to open in Fall 2025.
“This location brings us full circle,” said Michael Falvey, CEO of Loudoun Credit Union. “Our members work hard to make life here possible—for their families and for the community. Whether they’re managing credit card debt, trying to buy a reliable car, or just making ends meet, we see them. And we believe that being back downtown puts us in a better position to serve them.”
Originally chartered in 1978 to serve Loudoun County employees, educators, and first responders, LCU was granted a Community Charter in 2023, expanding its membership eligibility to anyone who lives, works, learns, or worships in Loudoun County.
The new location on West Market Street reflects that broader mission—bringing LCU closer to the day-to-day lives of the people it serves.
“Every loan we make tells a story—a family refinancing their home, a parent paying for braces, a neighbor starting a small business,” Falvey said. “That’s the power of local lending. It’s not just about financing purchases—it’s about financing lives. Our mission has always been to support the people of Loudoun, and this move downtown brings us closer to the heart of the community we’re proud to serve.”
This will be LCU’s fourth location in downtown Leesburg, and its return from Sycolin Road near the Executive Airport signifies more than a change in address—it’s a commitment to visibility, accessibility, and impact.
With the planned introduction of business banking services alongside its trusted personal offerings, LCU is positioning itself to better support both individuals and small enterprises across the county.
Board Chair Cindy Mester reflected on the move’s significance ahead of LCU’s golden anniversary.
“This is more than just a building—it’s a milestone,” she said. “We’re building on our past and present while stepping confidently into our future. As the town around us grows and evolves, so too does Loudoun Credit Union—stronger, more inclusive, and more rooted in community than ever before.”
The 6 W Market Street location—just steps from LCU’s original 1978 office—was heavily damaged by a kitchen fire in 2021. The interior was gutted, but the reconstruction that followed has become a symbol of resilience and renewal.
“The building is a blank canvas for innovation,” Falvey added. “It gives us the space and flexibility to meet modern financial needs while honoring the character of this historic town.”
Michael J. O’Connor, the site’s landlord and a longtime advocate for downtown revitalization, praised the partnership: “After the 2021 fire, we rebuilt with a vision for Leesburg’s future. LCU’s move is a testament to that vision—a perfect blend of legacy and forward-thinking.”
Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk also celebrated the announcement: “Keeping LCU in Leesburg, especially in our historic downtown, is a win for everyone. Their presence adds to the vitality and economic diversity of West Market Street.”
With a median household income of $114,444 and a workforce centered in professional and managerial fields, Leesburg is one of the most dynamic communities in the region.
Russell Seymour, Leesburg’s Director of Economic Development, noted, “LCU’s commitment comes at an ideal time, aligning with our efforts to enhance the downtown’s appeal and functionality. It’s another cornerstone in the evolving story of a town where heritage and innovation meet.”
